Tribute to Delia Quiñónez Castillo

Guatemalan National Prize for Literature 2016

Tribute, an seven-letter word, but of immense meaning for a person, a community, a country or for humanity, and this is the significance of the artist. Our guest of honor to present the life and work of Delia Quiñónez Castillo was the writer Ana María Valdeavellano.

As an activity in commemoration of the bicentennial of Independence, the Association of Women Journalists and Writers of Guatemala offered tribute to Delia Quiñónez Castillo, National Prize for Literature 2016, who is passionate about all literary genres, published in two continents, teacher, administrator, member, and founder of various associations, invited to international festivals and renowned academic.

Beyond a cum laude title and another summa cum laude, a Book Fair was dedicated to the writer. Numerous publications of her work were published by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, together with various editors in more than thirty anthologies.  The most significant tribute was when the public express Delia Quiñónez serenity, prudence, affability, generous friendship, companionship, discretion and other attributes and human values.  ​​

These characteristics demonstrate that in addition to being an admirable and transcendent writer, Delia Quiñónez is also a human being worthy of homage and admiration.

The Poet Delia Quiñónez has belonged to AMMPE, Guatemalan Chapter for several decades, having been its President on various occasions.
