Conclusions of the 24th AMMPE Congress

The so-called «Sala della Protomoteca», at the Town Hally of Rome, was the location where the closing ceremony of the 24th Worldwide Congress of our association took place. It was a 4-days event (between September 14th and 17th), where Chilean journalist Elia Simeone, general editor of the Austral Press of Punta Arenas and director of the National Association of Chilean Women Journalist (ANMPE), was elected as the new Worldwide President by unanimity.

During three days, journalist coming from all around the world shared infos about different topics of worldwide interest, such as migrations and human rights, the press freedom: up or downgrades, starting from the digital era and important events like the Covid-19 Pandemic or the war in Ukraine, the gender differences and the worldwide stereotypes in communication world (sexist language, women and media) and the future challenges in the world of communication, especially under a gender point of view, focusing on social networks too.

The general conclusions are very trascendental, considering that they claim the sure fact that, in a globalized world, even if with different tones, the problems affect us in the same way. From here comes the necessity, for us, communicators from all around the world, to establish international connections to face them together.

We are very satisfied for the actualization of our statutes, and we thank the former Worldwide President, Noelia Miranda. And so we’re very proud to announce that new chapters joined our Association during these last four years: chapters from Panama, U.S.A./Canada and Palestine, and others are being created in Spain, Germany and Peru. We welcome them now.

With such satisfaction we took as ours and approved by unanimity the declaration of GAMAG Europe of «supporting the purpose to ask European institutions the harmonization of statistical data about gender violence and other male chauvinist violences in the European Union and the European Council».

«At the Congress,GAMAG Europe showed the criteria inequalities and the gaps that are in the collection of these data from the different States. The examples of Spain, Italy, UK and Russia show a huge breach reflecting these violence, so is the perception that the citizens have of this scourge, as a result of the inequalities between men and women and the patriarchal system».

«The data are essential so that the journalists could focus on the rate of gender and the public policies could prevent and eradicate them». For these reasons, GAMAG Europe and AMMPE ask «that the European institutions (European Council, EU and European Institute for Equality (EIGE)) could unify and give easy access to sufficient and comparative data».

About the environment, we received with great pleasure the purpose of the Guatemalan chapter about “the suggestion to the governments and as a private initiative of all the countries, the creation of public-private alliances, through the improvement of programs of social-business responsibility with the goal of protecting the environment”.

The 25th Congress of our association will take place in 2024 in punta Arenas, the capital of the most austral province in the world, in Chilean Patagonia.
