Four smart uses of artificial intelligence in journalism

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is progressively transforming the media landscape. Newsrooms' adaptation of AI-based technologies has created a new way of generating and distributing news, optimizing their operations, and reaching previously underserved audiences.

One of the latest examples of this trend is in Finland, where public media outlet Yle has successfully employed AI to reach a previously unreached audience.

As documented by writer and editor Gabe Bullard in an extensive report for the Nieman Foundation, Yle has adopted this approach in response to the arrival in Finland of tens of thousands of Ukrainians displaced by the war. Although Yle already offers news in Finnish, Swedish, English and Russian, it has sought a way to reach these new residents in their native language - Ukrainian. Source: Fundación Luca de Tena
