Archaeologist Richard Hansen presents new findings at the Maya site El Mirador

The North American archaeologist Richard Hansen presented on Tuesday, June 6, new findings at El Mirador, one of the Late Preclassic Maya cities. The conference was organized by the AMMPE Guatemala chapter, headed by engineer Ana María Sánchez-Latour. The talk was held in the Luis Cardoza y Aragon auditorium of the Mexican Embassy in Guatemala. Hansen emphasized the magnitude of the archaeological site that lies beneath the dense Petén jungle and how important it is to preserve it. The site, located in the basin of the same name, was unveiled in 1926 and has been the subject of several research projects. But, it was in 2003 when Dr. Hansen and Edgar Suyuc Ley initiated large-scale studies again.
