Doris Nouel elected President of AMMPE World: A New Era of Leadership and Commitment
At the XXV World Congress of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE World 2024), held from September 23 to 27 in Punta Arenas, Chile, over 147 esteemed journalists and writers from around the globe convened to explore the future of communication. This landmark event not only celebrated the rich legacy of the World Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE) but also marked the election of the distinguished Dominican Doris Nouel as its new president, with the organization's global headquarters moving to the Dominican Republic.
Celebrating Doris Nouel’s Accomplishments
Doris Nouel Martínez, president of the International Magazine Vínculos, is a highly respected communicator, diplomat, and lawyer known for her unwavering commitment to advocating for the rights of women, youth, and children. Through her impactful Movement for Women and Youth, defined by the powerful motto "Woman, I Am Your Voice," Nouel has dedicated her career to empowering marginalized communities and driving social change.
A new direction for AMMPE
As president of AMMPE World, Nouel is poised to significantly enhance the organization’s impact. Her leadership vision includes fortifying existing AMMPE chapters and expanding the organization's reach into new territories. One of her flagship initiatives is the establishment of the AMMPE World Award for Journalistic Excellence, which will honor exceptional writers, journalists, and students while providing educational scholarships to foster professional development in journalism.
During the recent congress, the prestigious Gabriela Mistral Award was also presented, underscoring the importance of recognizing excellence in the field. Nouel’s term will continue until the next congress in 2026, which will be hosted in the Dominican Republic, further solidifying her influence on the organization’s trajectory.

Founded in 1969 by the visionary journalist Gloria Salas de Calderón, AMMPE has evolved into a crucial platform for women journalists and writers worldwide. It has garnered international acclaim, welcomed leaders like Golda Meir and Michelle Bachelet, and engaged with institutions such as the UN and UNESCO. With chapters established across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia, AMMPE has consistently advocated for gender equality, press freedom, and the rights of women in journalism.

Commitment to New Challenges
Under Nouel’s dynamic leadership, AMMPE is ready to tackle new challenges, focusing on raising awareness and supporting the professional development of women journalists while ensuring their safety in the field. Her administration is also dedicated to advancing global initiatives, including a significant declaration to the UN advocating for a "Day of Reflection for Orphaned Children of Femicide and Victims of War."
Nouel and her team, including writer and filmmaker Cecilia Domeyko as Global Vice President and prominent journalists Josefina Reynoso and Raysa White Más in key deputy vice presidential roles, are committed to building a robust network of leaders from all regions. The Dominican Republic chapter has also appointed an exceptional group of executive directors, including Margarita Feliciano, Karime Rivas, and others, all dedicated to the organization's mission.
In the Dominican Republic chapter, we have appointed as executive directors valuable professionals: Margarita Feliciano, Karime Rivas, Rocío Santana, Andrea Medina, Geneuris Díaz, Lorena Herazme, Elena Peralta, Francis Suero, Leonor Asilis, Yajaira Sánchez and Dalma Núñez.
“As we move forward, we will continue to select leaders in all regions of the world, focusing on building and strengthening our networks to meet the organization's global objectives,” Nouel said.
