"Science outreach is vital to support sustainable development and to get more young women to choose science-focused careers"

"Science outreach is vital to support the sustainable development of our peoples. Women journalists can contribute a great deal to this and, in doing so, also get more young women to choose science-focused careers". This was stated by the president of the Worldwide Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE World), Elia Simeone, after participating in the awards ceremony of For Women in Science 2023, where the winners in Chile were Katherine Vergara, in the doctorate category, and Daniela Haro, in the postdoctoral category.

The initiative has been promoted by L'Oreal Fondation together with Unesco for 25 years at a global level, with the conviction that the world needs science and science needs women. To this end, it established the recognition of scientific research by women studying doctoral and post-doctoral studies, in addition to providing financial support to continue their work. In Chile, For Women in Science had its first version in 2007. This year's award ceremony was held on Thursday, November 23 at the La Moneda Cultural Center.
