Spanish journalist and writer Rosa Montero to open AMMPE World Congress
Rosa Montero, Spanish journalist and author of several renowned novels, will give the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the XXV World Congress of Women Journalists and Writers to be held from 23-27 September in Punta Arenas.
Montero has received the most important awards in her long professional career. The writer was invited by AMMPE World to give her views on journalism and literature today, when the gender perspective is a fundamental concern of women journalists and writers.
The international meeting is organised by the World Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE World), which, from September 2022, will be chaired by Elia Simeone from Magellan. Rosa Montero's exhibition will take place on the morning of Monday 23 September in the halls of the Hotel Casino Dreams in Punta Arenas.
Rosa Montero was born in Madrid and studied journalism and psychology. She has published the novels Crónica del desamor (1979), La función Delta (1981), Te trataré como a una reina (1983), Amado Amo (1988), Temblor (1990), Bella y Oscura (1993), La hija del caníbal (1997, Primavera Novel Prize), El corazón del Tártaro (2001), La loca de la casa (2003, Qué Leer, Grinzane Cavour and Roman Primeur awards), History of the Transparent King (2005, Qué Leer and Mandarache awards), Instructions to Save the World (2008, Readers' Prize at the Festival of European Literatures in Cognac, France), Tears in the Rain (2011), Tears in the Rain. Comic (2011, Best Comic Award at the Barcelona International Comic Fair), La ridícula idea de no volver a verte (2013, Madrid Critics' Prize), El peso del corazón (2015), La carne (2016), Los tiempos del odio (2018), La buena suerte (2020) and El peligro de estar cuerda (2022).
She has also published the book of short stories Amantes y enemigos (1998, Premio Círculo de Críticos de Chile), and two biographical essays: Historias de mujeres -reissued in an illustrated, revised and expanded edition under the title Nosotras. Historias de mujeres y algo más (2018)-and Pasiones (2000), as well as stories for children, compilations of interviews and articles, and Escribe con Rosa Montero (2017).
Since 1976 she has written for the newspaper El País, where she was editor-in-chief of the Sunday supplement during 1980-1981. In addition to those mentioned, she has been awarded the National Journalism Prize (1981), the National Prize of Spanish Letters (2017), the Leyenda de la Asociación de Librerías de Madrid and Ciudad de Alcalá de las Artes y las Letras awards (2019), the Cedro Prize (2020) and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2022). She holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Puerto Rico and her work has been translated into more than twenty languages.
